Personal and Social Education

Guidance teachers plan and deliver the Personal and Social Education (PSE) programme which all pupils undertake from S1 to S6.  The programme covers a wide range of contemporary issues and aims to develop pupils as responsible citizens, confident individuals, effective contributors and successful learners.  To enhance the programme we engage with a number of external organisations that enrich the programme.

Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood forms part of the national curriculum as part of PSE.  Young people will learn how to build positive relationships as they grow older and make informed choices.  Facts are presented in an objective, balanced and sensitive manner within a framework of sound values and an awareness of the law on sexual behaviour.  However, if parents or carers feel that the content of the sexual health education programme within our RSHP education programme is not appropriate they can withdraw a child from all or part of a planned programme of lessons and we will make arrangements for the child to have alternative educational provision. Please contact us for more information about the programme if you are considering withdrawing your child or if you would like more information about any aspect of the PSE programme.  Further information can be found here.
