Year 11 Women in Science Residential

We're really excited to announce that applications are open for our annual Women in Science Residential, taking place during the Easter holiday, 2018.  If you have female students in year 11, who are thinking about continuing with sciences at A level and beyond, then this residential is for them! Dates: Wednesday 4th - Friday 6th April 2018 Eligibility: There are a number of eligibility criteria that are considered when selecting successful applicants. Essential criteria include identifying as female, currently attending a state school, and having a minimum of five 6-9 grades predicted at GCSE. Students must also be studying at least two sciences. Additional criteria can be found on our website at www.pem.cam.ac.uk/women-in-science-residential2018. Cost: Free! Year 12 Masterclasses

In 2018, Pembroke is delighted to be re-launching our series of Year 12 Masterclasses. These sessions will cover a range of subject areas, and will enable students to:

  • Explore subjects they are considering studying at university in greater depth
  • Gain new insight in to university style teaching
  • Visit Pembroke, see what Cambridge and Pembroke have to offer
  • Meet current students to find out what being a student at Cambridge is really like
  • Gain experiences that will be useful in writing their personal statements

Confirmed subjects so far include Architecture; Biological Natural Sciences; Engineering; History and Human, Social and Political Sciences. More will be added to the schedule shortly! Dates:

  • Saturday 24th March (Engineering, History and Human, Social and Political Sciences)
  • Monday 9th April (Architecture and Biological Natural Sciences)

Year 12 Visit Days to Pembroke 

Our 2018 Year 12 visit days  are taking place in February and March, and we hope that you're able to bring a group of students along!  The visits are for state school students and run from around 10:00 until 15:15. They typically include:

  • Detailed information on making a competitive application to university
  • A student Q&A panel
  • A Personal Statement workshop
  • Lunch in the Pembroke dining hall and a tour with our current students
  • Q&A with Admissions staff from Pembroke

Year 12 BME Event

Some of Pembroke College's current students are organising an event specifically for year 12 students who identify as Black or from an Minority Ethnic group. The event aims to give prospective students a fuller understanding of the university, Pembroke, and the city, through a range of different sessions including:

  • An admissions talk, delivered by Pembroke’s Admissions Tutor
  • A debate (subject TBC)
  • The opportunity to meet current students and hear about their experiences of Cambridge – both as a university and a city
  • Lunch
  • …and more!

S4 and 5 Scottish Information Seminars

Pembroke is excited to be visiting Scotland again in the New Year, in conjunction with Homerton and Selwyn Colleges and the University of Oxford, to deliver a series of information seminars to students in S4 and S5 who are considering applying to Oxbridge. Schools are encouraged to sign up to bring a group of your students to these, taking place in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Dates:

  • Aberdeen: Wednesday 7th February, 2018, 14:00-16:30
  • Glasgow: Thursday 8th February, 2018, 10:00-12:30 and 13:30-16:00
  • Edinburgh: Friday 9th February, 2018, 10:00-12:30 and 13:30-16:00

Italian Teachers CPD Day

Selwyn College, in cooperation with the University of Cambridge Italian Section, would like to invite you to an Italian Teachers Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Day which will take place on Saturday 3rd March 2018. 

This event is open to teachers who are currently teaching Italian at any level or who may be teaching Italian in the future, whether towards formal qualifications such as GCSEs and A Levels or informally such as in a school club.
